Reza Aslan and Iran

Iran is in the news constantly these days as we all know and yet I feel like there are gaps in the understanding of Iranian politics and what this revolution really is about. It is no longer about an election it is about much more than that. I have now seen two different interviews with Reza Aslan, a commentator for The Daily Beast, which really helps me to understand what is going on in Iran and some of the realities of the lack of influence the U.S can and does have in Iran. I know several Republicans including McCain have called for more action from President Obama and yet that seems counterproductive in a country and region where there is so much hostility toward us. These interviews are also with two of my favorite interviewers and news people, Jon Stewart and Rachel Maddow. I am choosing to show both interviews in case you have not seen one or both of them. Also, I think that each interviews adds to and expands Aslan's thoughts and ideas on Iran.

First, Rachel Maddow's piece about Iran including the interview with Aslan.

Now for the slightly longer interview with Aslan from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Jon Stewart is at it again

I was going to post this video in which Jon Stewart calls out all of the asshats over at CNBC especially Rick Santelli about their "business" reporting. As Stewart shows they are merely shills for the corporate world with no actual care for the non-millionaires in the world. And then I read my RSS feed and saw that Little Mary Sunshine and Betsy over at Mock, Paper, Scissors. But then I decided, ahh fuck it, I am posting it anyway. It is too good not to post and really what does it hurt for one more person to post it to their blog, maybe more people will see it then. Although I do have to say that I saw the clip initially in a Chicago Sun-Times article with the title, Jon Stewart attacks Rick Santelli in a Daily show rant. Stewart not really ranting, IMHO, more like pointing out the inadequacies of CNBC which he does and does well with most any network or person who makes themselves into a flaming idiot. So enjoy if you have not seen this already.

Do the right thing- Fuck you Huckabee

I just want to post this clip from Jon Stewart's interview with Huckabee about gay marriage. As usual Stewart was well spoken and got his point across that anti-gay measures are bigoted and mean-spirited. And as usual Huckabee was bigoted and mean-spirited and used the same tired lines about gay marriage redefining marriage taking away from the idea of one man and one woman. But it is a great interview and reason number (oh whatever number it is) that I really like Jon Stewart.

I love Jon Stewart

This interview of the biographer of Dick Cheney shows yet again why I say Jon Stewart is the greatest news person currently on TV. He is also possibly the greatest interviewer currently. I know that this show is biased and I know that his responses to Stephen Hayes are very biased, but he make such great points that I was literally cheering as I heard him talking. I have also heard him go after "liberals" as well, so he does not seem to be quite as biased as anyone on Fox News and in my opinion most any other news people who just throw softballs at whoever they support.
