YouTube Friday

Shabbat Shalom, y'all.

Because in the Blue Gal Salon, Klezmer seems to come up quite often and several people have never heard it before, so this ones for you.

This one is just because it is such a great traditional song in such a great non-traditional way.

I think that DCap is the one who showed me the Dick Dale doing Hava Nagila, but honestly I don't remember, so if it was someone else I am sorry. But thanks to whoever it was.

I loves me some Klezmer, 'specially when it takes on The Fury and goes North African.

Gawd!

I gotta go dancin' this weekend. And you just did that!

L'chaim baby! And good shabbos to you my friend.

I love Klezmer. My friend who is modern Orthodox had the best klezmer band for her wedding. It was great.

You will probably get this odd-ball story about my own (recent-april) wedding.

I have all my Jewish relatives and friends, but despite my shaina maidl-like ways I am only half and half shiksa.

So at my wedding, my two rabbi cousins were going to do the reception blessing or berekah. I had asked my dj to have some good klezmer music to play.

So after the berekah it starts with me (Mr He Is was like no way!) up on the chair and the music is playing. Then I strain to hear- and what is playing, but Dayenu. What? Dayenu? I looked over at one of my many Jewish friends and we were like "WTF?" and started to laugh.

I guess the goyische dj saw it under Jewish songs and played it.

This story is only potentially funny to Jews and even then, not so much.

CR- I am glad to have inspired you.
Fran- I love that story from your wedding. That is very funny and of course after reading it, I now have Dayenu stuck in my head.
DCap-I really thought you had shown me that at one of the BG Salons, well I guess I was wrong.

As if I just told you the story, as if that were not enough... dayenu!

Dick Dale is very connected to the world of Klezmer btw, but maybe you know that already.
