We join this season's survivor already in progress. We have also lost the geezer and 911 in this tribe. Who is left; the millionaire, the military veteran and the man who eats fried squirrels. It would seem that the vet is going to win his tribe's contests and survive, but the millionaire will still try to steal the contests. Although the millionaire may not be able to outwit or outplay his opponents, he might be able to outlast. The vet should be able to outplay the other two and the squirrel eater, well he will just have to pray to his God that somehow he can outlast which is doubtful.
Now on the other tribe, we have lost the short man with the attractive wife, the talker, Dudd, the Latino who somehow in a historic election was never able to capitalize on this and the fan favorite, the man from North Carolina. So now we are left with the black man versus the woman. The black man would not, on first glance, be able to outplay, outwit or outlast the woman, but he just seems to hang in there and has a lot of support. He has charm that the one who vote you off the island like, so he will survive till the end. The woman is trying to outwit, outplay and outlast the man. Who will win? We will have to see.
Then onto the finale. The final contest, where we find out who will win the ultimate prize, no not a million dollars, but the right to govern the United States of America. (I would prefer a million dollars to be honest.)
This is a speech by a 13 year old girl from 1992 where she talks about the degradation of our environment and yet nothing has changed. As she says at the end, "Words are hollow, we need more action." This is why this election is so important.
For your consideration is a Christopher guest film which includes a similar ensemble cast that have appeared in some of his other films like Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, and A Mighty Wind. It is the story of a small independent film called, Home for Purim, in which Oscar buzz develops around the cast and the film. It shows the ways in which the actors change and the ways in which the film changes before and after the Oscar buzz develops. It has a hugely funny cast, but like many of his other films the humor is subtle and dry at times. There is also a lot of humor that surrounds the fact that this is a "Jewish film" and so there are a lot of Yiddish jokes throughout the films. Although some of the cast is the same as other films like Harry Shearer, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, and my personal favorite Fred Willard, there are many new faces to Christopher Guest films and each of them are really sublime. This is a really funny and enjoyable film and if you liked any of his other films, you should check out For Your consideration. But I should say that it is not Guest's best film, so if you have never seen a film by him, check out Best in Show or Waiting for Guffman, which are my personal favorites.
FranIAm has mentioned this film to me several times and each time I think, I need to see that. I think I have seen it before and after watching it, I was right. I had seen it before, but it is such an interesting and well made documentary that I am glad I saw it again. This film looks at individuals who are homosexual while also being very observant Jews. It looks at the prohibition against homosexuality as it is written about in the Torah (Bible) and how this affects individuals who are gay. There are several different people, both male and female who are profiled in this movie. Each of them has their own story and their own demons to face. Each of them also face a different reaction from their family. Many of them are shunned from their community and family, but it seems as though at least one of them has a better relationship with their parents. They all seem to have a partner in their lives that help them to cope with these issues as it seemed most of them were also with very observant Jews. The movie seems to touch upon the same issues that occur in the conservative Christian community surrounding homosexuality and the stigma that is attached. If you have not seen this movie yet, do so as it is very well made and does give some insight into a cross section of individuals we rarely get a chance to learn about, those who are happily gay and also religiously observant.
I find it interesting, though, that the Bible only specifies male homosexuality as wrong, the addition of female homosexuality is added later on in further commentary. This only reflects a patriarchal society where men where valued higher that women and so the sin of a man being with another man seemed more important. I also think that this is at its base a kind of "yuck" factor, men seem to have this kind of aversion to men being with other men. I have been around plenty of men who say they have no problem with homosexuality, but do not want to see two men kiss. This is reflected in the prohibition against male homosexuality in both religious and secular society. But, of course, this same societal pressure is not applied to when two women kiss and in fact women kissing is encouraged. Hell go to a bar, party or other place where college kids or other young adults are socializing and I am willing to bet that you will see two women kissing, mostly because of the encouragement of young men. This sexual experimentation is expected and even desired for girls by men, but it is not socially acceptable for two men to kiss in public. I will point to this case of two football players from the University of Florida where after a big play, one of the players kissed the other on the cheek. There was a huge uproar about it in the national media and you couldn't watch a sports show that week without someone saying something about it. The reaction was not generally positive either, but I bet that if this had happened among women in say the women's World Cup soccer games this summer, there would have been little said about it or it would have been one of those, "heh heh heh see I told you all women were secretly lesbians" type of things that the media and the majority of men love to say.
Now I am not saying that I have any interest in kissing another man, but I also have no issues watching two men who care for each other to share a kiss whether it is on the cheek or on the lips. As for women who kiss, I guess since it was not that big of a deal and was pretty usual when I was in college only a few years ago, my attitude is more of that it is silly most of the time and that it is just another facet of this misogynistic society that we live in.
This is the first in my New Year's Resolution to read more and hence post at least one book review a month on this site.
Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation is written by Lynne Truss and is just that a book about punctuation. I strongly dislike punctuation and grammar and have since I was in elementary school, but as I have gotten older and have written more for undergrad and grad work and now this blog I realize the importance of the written word and making sure that you are able to read it properly. So I wanted to read this book as I thought it might help me to understand the rules and usage of written grammar much better. I have issues with that damn comma and this book seemed like the way to help learn the rules for the use of the comma. It also sounded like it would be interesting and a fun read. Well, it was all of these things; it is interesting, funny and informative. Truss combines the history of written grammar and where these silly marks like the comma, semicolon and hyphen come from in the publishing world. She also discusses the literary aspects of many of these punctuation marks and writers and their varied usage of many of these marks especially ones like the hyphen or the comma which different writers tend to like or dislike to different degrees. Truss shows us common examples of punctuation mistakes in our everyday life such as at the grocery store or in the mass media. Many of these examples are humorous and show us really how the written word and punctuation has declined recently. She even ends with some discussion on the prevalence of emails as a means of communication. Truss views email as a positive thing for written communication as this means that we are continuing to write and use punctuation, albeit wrongly, but it continues the need to learn punctuation. She discusses the fact that it wasn't so long ago that the prevailing thought was that the television was making reading and writing obsolete, and that punctuation was not getting the needed attention. She acknowledges that our writing especially in emails is not usually correct, in regards to punctuation, but that since we have to continue to write, we can continue to learn the correct punctuation and then starting to write correctly again.
I really enjoyed this book. I think that it should be a book that is required reading for all high school English teachers and their students. And if it is not read in high schools should be adopted into Freshman college English classes, but we need to teach this stuff. I know it is taught, but I had it out of stuffy grammar books that made it boring. Truss makes punctuation interesting and fun. If you haven't read this book yet and need a refresher on punctuation pick it up and enjoy. I would even go so far as saying to buy it as I really think that I will use it as a reference at times so it is a book that can be read and used over and over again.
So I have had a few rough days of teaching. Wild children and just questioning why I do what I do for the little pay that I get and then I remembered the trick, for me, of how to remind myself why I do this, sure it is for the kids, but I needed that voice. I needed that voice that reminds me that I am making a difference and that what I do makes a difference. So I found this voice. I have heard this poet before and really like him, I have heard or read this poem a lot of times and each time I get a chill just listening to it. So I dedicate this to all of us teachers. I could name a few of you, but you know who you are and if you are a parent, you are the most important teacher of all, so this goes out to you as well.

This is a problem that affects manly, manly students all over the word. I myself was such a bed spiller once upon a term that my English torturer in my sophomoric year, Mrs. Myth, she said I would never get into a good colleague. And that¹s all I wanted, that's all any kid wants at that age just to get into a good colleague. Not just anal community colleague, because I wouldn¹t be happy at just anal community colleague.
I really need to be challenged, challenged menstrually I needed a place that would offer me intellectual simulation, I know this makes me sound like a stereo, but I really wanted to go to an ivory legal colleague. So if I did not improvement or gone would be my dream of going to Harvard, Jail, or Prison (in Prison, New Jersey).
So I got myself a spell checker and figured I was on Sleazy Street.
But there are several missed aches that a spell chukker can¹t can¹t catch catch. For instant, if you accidentally leave out word your spell exchequer won¹t put it in you. And God for billing purposes only you should have serial problems with Tori Spelling your spell Chekhov might replace a word with one you had absolutely no detention of using.
Because what do you want it to douch? It only does what you tell it to douche. You¹re the one with your hand on the mouth going clit, clit, clit. It just goes to show you how embargo one careless little clit of the mouth can be.
Which reminds me of this one time during my Junior Mint. The teacher took the paper that I had written on A Sale of Two Titties No I'm cereal, I am cereal she read it out loud in front of all of my assmates. It was the most humidifying experience of my life, being laughed at pubically.

This commercial bothers me. It should take absolutely no explaining why it bothers me, but I will indulge myself anyway. Here is a women at a pizza place getting a salad because she is a flower. SHE IS A MOTHERFUCKING FLOWER!!!! That is stupid and wrong. So then of course she breaks down and gets some pizza and some kind of dessert-y type thing. Oh yeah, but she still gets the salad and of course it is only two slices of pizza. The worst part is that after all of this, she is still a flower, but now the very deep voiced commentator says, this is a flower that he likes.
So what I am getting here is that A) women are flowers, B) these flowers only eat salad and "healthy" stuff, and C) but when they get pizza or other non-flower type foods, we as non-flowers (males) like this. Now personally I don't care what you eat and yes I do like when the friends I am around including women eat what they like which can include pizza or whatever non-healthy food they want. So, if you want to eat a salad well then good, but then you are still not a fucking flower. You are a goddamn human being who wants to eat a salad and if you want a salad why are we going to a pizza place? This chain doesn't even have the saving grace of good pizza, it is shitty pizza, so why the fuck would anyone go to a shitty pizza place to get a shitty salad and then be called a flower?
Damn commercials and their hidden and in this case blatant misogyny.

There's little else that captures your attention from sunup to sundown than farming, eating, or simply admiring the splendor of the tater. Sure, you stop to see the butterflies once in a while, or to look at rocks, but mostly you just wish they were potatoes too. Secretly, you hold a stash of potatoes in the cellar for the time when the government comes to round them up and take them for their nefarious purposes. You will stop them!
Despite their many best efforts, no one can resist your cute and cuddly charms. With a disarming smile and a friendly nature, you melt even the hardest of hearts in a matter of minutes. Though this convinces many that you are just a teddy bear, you do have a serious side and are, in fact, nothing like a bear. You absolutely love chewing gum. You secretly believe yourself to be the inspiration for the Star Wars character Yoda.
At the beginning of the football season, who would have thought that Eli Manning and not Peyton Manning would be in the Superbowl. Eli definitely has started to look better as a player, but the Patriots are unstoppable this season I believe.

The movie, Mendy: A question of faith, is a look at a young Chasidic Jew who decides to leave his community. It explores the internal conflict within this young man as he has to try and survive in the world outside of his cloistered community. He leaves for reasons that we cannot be totally sure of, but he says many times in the film in defense to his close friend who also left the same community, that he can go back at any time. The film explores this individual and his attempts at figuring out his life and what it means for him.
To start with the cinematography is amazing. It reminds me very much of a documentary film or a television show. It is obviously not a large corporate film house that has done this film, it is an independent film company. According to this site, Mendy's box office gross was $7123. But this lack of finish to the film and the way it is filmed gives it a base in reality, it feels as though this is real. I didn't feel as though I was a work of fiction, it seemed more autobiographical. There are even points at which the use of black and white photography is used to move the story along. Much of the film is also done in Yiddish with some English thrown in as well so you again feel the authenticity of the story and movie.
The story itself is amazing. You get a glimpse into a world that many of us do not know about. But instead of being fully immersed in the community or have the rituals and routines of the community thrust upon you, we see the world of someone who is leaving the community, someone who is looking for something more, something that was not given to him within his community. He is one that could make it there, he could become a Rebbe or a respected person in the community, so it is not that he did not fit in, he fit in well, he just wants more. He is curious about the outside world, the world of sin as he refers to it. But he also is drawn to and feels a apart of the world of the Chasidics, he is still an observant Jew for much of the film. He really struggles with even being around non-Jews. At one point, he asks his friend why he (the friend) would want to live in a world surrounded by non-Jews. Mendy is never really ready to cut his ties completely with his upbringing, it gives him structure and comfort and at times in the movie he struggles when that structure seems to disintegrate. This is a story of metamorphosis and change.
In case you couldn't tell, I really liked this film. I liked the way it was filmed and I liked the story. It seemed honest and fresh to me, it was a story of a person who has to change to find himself. This film is one that seemed to have made the film festival circuit, I would guess especially Jewish film festivals, but it is a shame that films like these do not get more attention. I know that not everyone would want to see it, but as an Indie film, it would seem to have some appeal at least in larger cities. The story is of hope and love and change, and isn't that what all really great films are about at least in part.
There is also an interesting interview in the extras for this film with one of the co-writers of Mendy, Heshe Schnitzler. Heshe was raised in the Satmar Chasidic community of Williamsburg, NY. He was even married at 18 and then left the community at 24 leaving his wife, kids and community behind. He puts some interesting perspective on Mendy and the characters in Mendy. He discusses the realities that are involved in this story and that this is not his story directly, but the story of him, his friends and others that he has heard about people who have left the Chasidic community. The interview is almost as long as that movie at close to an hour, but if after watching the movie you want to know more about "Mendy" and about the way in which this movie was created, it is an incredible interview.
In addition to Chuck Norris, Huckabee now has the illustrious endorsement of Rick "The Nature Boy" Flair. Yes, he now has the endorsement of a bad, asshole actor and a professional wrestling entertainer. Woooooo to steal from Flair. And now for your viewing pleasure, a campaign visit from Huckabee at Clemson University from yesterday. I didn't watch the whole thing and I don't expect you to either, but it does show Flair being introduced as part of the campaign as the future Secretary of the Army, Navy and Marines within the first minute or so and if you can make it till about the 1 minute 40 seconds mark you get to see Norris introduced as the future Secretary of Defense and that is as far as I could make it. This scares the shit out of me that these two are introduced as part of a future cabinet for Huckabee. This man is crazy!!!

I am not dead just MIA. I have missed my little blog here and I have missed reading all of you, but this week it just doesn't seemed to have happened. Things keep coming up or I just don't do it or something. Anyway...I am back and I got meme'd on Monday by Mathman and I figure that is a good way for me to jump back into the pond of bloggging. I am supposed to talk about 5 things I didn't see in my future at the age of 25.
I was 25 from October 21, 2003 to October 20, 2004 so you see it wasn't that long ago and yet there are things that I didn't see in my future. Here are five of them.
1. I didn't know i would have a dog. Well, I knew I wanted a dog at some point but that was one i was grown up and had a house and such. I also thought I would get a Golden Retriever casue that is what I had grown up with or a Rottweiler just casue I think they are cool. And I ended up with a Boxer, yeah not even on my radar.
2. I had just started my Masters in Early Childhood education and didn't really know if I would finish it. I knew I wanted to finish it, but I have this thing where I have issues not living in the present so every educational graduation I have ever been involved in, I have not really been able to see till the day it happened, from high school graduation to undergrad to grad.
3. I really thought I would be a teacher in public schools at this point too and here I am after having done that for two years, and deciding to get out. Now I work at more of a daycare type setting still teaching preschool, but daycare and public school preschool are vastly different.
4. I didn't know I would be living where I am living. Sure I knew after a few months of living in Greensboro, NC that I would want to move to another place, but where I am now I am not sure was where I was thinking. I actually thought I would move farther south like Charleston, SC or Atlanta, GA.
5. I guess I never thought I would still be single for that whole time. I had hopes that I would have a dating life during that point in time. I am not sure if I thought I would be married, but still very single and not really much of a dating life would have surprised me somewhat, especially since I was constantly surrounded by women in many of my grad classes. I really thought I would meet someone either at work or when I was going to classes, but no such luck.

CBS is airing the final installment in the Lonesome Dove series, Comanche Moon. Now I have never read any of this series and have not seen any of the previous installments of the series on TV when they were made into TV movies, but the commercials are really bothering me. They seem overly racist. They portray the Comanche as blood thirsty savages who the pioneers had to kill just to protect themselves. This suggests that the settlers were minding their own business, just trying to live and the Comanche decided to attack for no reason. Well, I hate to try and correct the history, but it seems to me that the indigenous peoples were here much longer than the white settlers. It seems to me that we took over their land, brought disease that killed them and in many instances began the wars. From the invasion of Mexico by Cortez and the Spaniards to the concept of Manifest Destiny where the US had to expand itself "from sea to shining sea", the settlers and invaders did nothing, but destroy the land and attack the indigenous peoples. We created any violence that was found here. I am not saying that the Native Americans did not have wars among themselves over land and such, but there were set boundaries to where tribes lived and hunted. The Comanche did not decide to just take over the land of the Apache or Cheyenne because they needed all of the land. They did not wage wars on other tribes because the other tribe was "in their way". They did not destroy the vegetation and animals, hunting the bison to extinction purely as a sport, in order to expand across the land. And they sure as fuck didn't ask the damn white settlers to kill them.
So, why is it OK to show such blatantly racist shit on TV? Why is it OK to show the white settlers as declaring war on the Comanche or any other Native tribe and then blaming the tribe for fighting back? Why is it Ok for us to now romanticize this time in our history that we should be so ashamed of? It is no longer OK to romanticize the pre-Civil War south. It is not OK, anymore, in our society to show the slaves simply as racist caricatures of singing, dancing buffoons whose sole purpose in life was the servitude of their owner and yet... And yet it is still OK to portray the Native Americans as violent, vicious, ruthless savages who wanted nothing, but to kill the white settlers. Why is this OK? Can anyone answer me?

This is the obligatory political post and it may really annoy some people and I may even alienate some of the handful of readers, but anyway...
As I was driving home from work today and it is a short drive, I heard on NPR them talking about the campaign. They were talking about Hillary and how she has not given up on Nevada even though it appears that Obama should win this state. They noted that she went to Las Vegas today and went door-to-door, she even kissed women, etc. I really lost it after the whole kissed women thing. What the hell is that supposed to mean, she even kissed women? Is this supposed to show that she is more available? Is this supposed to show that she is "down with the Latino culture"? Is this supposed to appeal to the lesbian vote, what the hell does it matter if she kissed women, there was no mention of what she did with the men, did she kiss them as well? I am pretty sure that it would be just as appropriate to kiss a man on his cheek as a woman within Latino culture. So what the hell did that mean?
This led me to what has bugged me about this campaign, the whole idea of the women versus the black man and that is exactly how this campaign is being portrayed. I can deal with this from the MSM as I expect this from them, but it seems that the progressive, liberal blogosphere, the same one I am a part of, is falling into this same trap. I heard an interview with Elizabeth Edwards where she said something to the effect of, isn't that why we fought for civil rights and the rights of women, so that gender and ethnicity do not matter. Yes, it is in her and her husband's best interest for the race to be more about the issues. I am biased in this, but if the issues were raised I think that John Edwards may do better. I would support an Obama presidency, but he is inexperienced and another four years would be good for him, in my opinion, so that he could get more foreign policy experience. And I do believe that Clinton is too much of the same old DC politics and is too tied to big corporations, more so than the other two, but I would support her in a presidential run. The real issue for me is that we hear very little about what the candidates really think about the issues and too much about their gender or their ethnicity and the history of this election. If Edwards cannot win, and it is starting to look like he can't, I want to see an Obama/Clinton or vice versa (I don't care which) Democratic ticket, but in my opinion that wouldn't happen and that is the biggest shame of it all.
Oh by the way, I am also super annoyed because the NC primary is in May sometime, yes I will still vote, but really who will be left, the race will be almost if not totally decided by then. We need a national primary where all of the states have the same primary date or we need a regional primary system where over a set of five different dates, ten states each have their primaries. There is too much importance put on Iowa and New Hampshire and not enough on those states like NC who have really late primaries.
Yesterday in my classroom, my co-teacher had to sit the whole class down and talk to them about not kissing each other. Apparently, she had noticed it and a parent had mentioned something about it. I hadn't noticed any kids kissing and from the examples she was making it seemed like it was like five or six kids in a class of 17, so I am not sure it is widespread, but still apparently it was happening. Now I must tell you that kissing in preschool is kind of like sex in high school, it is a big no no and parents and staff can tend to flip out over it.I could go into a whole thing about is a class meeting, really necessary for this small a sample of kids and stuff, but I wouldn't as most of you probably are not that interested in it and that is not really what I want to focus on. At one point in the discussion/lecture, my co-teacher noted that in addition to the spread of germs, they were too young to kiss.
The kids kept saying I kiss my mommy, my daddy, my brother, my sister, whatever and the response was, "Well I don't care what you do at home, but you can't do it here at school." Luckily for me I was cleaning the room up after morning snack and could hide for a few minutes while I just laughed at this, they are too young for kissing? And you don't care what they do at home? Hmmmmm... well what they do at home is going to affect them at school. In fact many of the parents, say to their children before they leave in the morning, "Give me a kiss and a hug." So then of course this is seen as a positive thing and they want to give their friends hugs and kisses, it is something you do with someone you like/love. They understand that they kiss mommy and daddy and they understand that mommy and daddy kiss, so then why shouldn't they kiss their friends? I understand the spread of germs argument and it is valid and it is something we try to avoid, but it seems to be bigger than this. It really seemed to be an issue cause some of the boys were running around kissing each other and well that means the boys must be gay, right. I mean if they kiss other boys they have to b gay, never mind the fact that they do not think about their own sexuality that way yet. I am not arguing that some children may know they are gay even as young as 4 or 5, but I would guess that they see it as they feel kind of strange or different, I would venture that these feelings really solidify around puberty as do the feelings of heterosexual individuals.
Isn't this a version of abstinence only education? You are allowed to kiss and show affection only to your parents. We say hugging is allowed, but not kissing. This is sending a mixed message to kids. They do not understand the not sharing germs thing, really, at least in my experience and kissing is just something they do to show that they like someone. As a society, we need to get over ourselves and start allowing children and all people to be able to be comfortable with their bodies and themselves.
OT: I have been thinking about creating a whole nother blog for just these issues, early childhood things, but I have not decided yet. So if you have an opinion either way, let me know in comments. I know I have said this before, but I truly do love Jon Stewart. The whole first show back was all about the writers strike as in that is all he talked about the whole night. The guest he had one was about labor relations and the moment of zen was the strike outside his studio. I know he had to go back and I think it sucks, but I also appreciate that he did try to do somethings and he took a lot of shots at Viacom and the producers.

They have been adding new and different colors like "red-hot" and "fashion pink" in addition to leopard print. Now they have added a new holster that not only will hold your taser, but also includes a 1 gig mp3 player. So now you can jam out while you tase people.
I have noticed that there seems to be a lot more military activity lately. I guess I am close enough to Camp Lejune that this is where the helicopters are coming from or going to, but it seems like the activity is really on the rise. In fact I saw two helicopters in one hour this afternoon, when up to a month ago it was rare to see two in a week. I know when I lived in DE and was close to Dover Airforce base that when we saw more helicopters it meant something was going on and I am assuming that the same holds true here in NC. But it does make me wonder what BushCo. are up to.
I haven't done a post in a long time about me cooking so I decided tonight was a good time to do it.
Here is what I made for dinner tonight. Yep I made squid tonight.

The final meal, yep that is calamari on a salad. It was a nice little bag salad I had picked up a while ago and needed to finish off and some tomatoes I decided to add to the salad. Yummy!!
Oh yeah by the way, I had never made calamari before, I love to eat it, but decided to make it myself this time. Now I need to find a recipe that I want to try for octopus and more for squid.
I found this on IMDB and it is funny so enjoy and if you haven't seen the movie yet, then go see it, but this little widget thing has some of the great lines fromt he movie.

This is a great scene from what otherwise I thought was an OK movie. Especially considering the season we just went through, yeah, if you do not spend enough you are apparently crazy according to "the system".

A friend sent me this article about a couple who got in a fight over the fact that he wanted his dog in the bathroom while the two showered together and she didn't. In fact the fight came to blows with him getting punched in the face, getting cut with a picture frame she threw and dislocating his shoulder as the two of them grappled...naked.
This is incredibly funny to me as, I have a dog. I have a dog who follows me everywhere. I have a dog who will follow me into the bathroom on occasion. No, he does not typically follow me in there when I am showering, but he does lay down right outside the door to the bathroom. But...if I am in the shower with someone, I am thinking I can find something better to do than argue if the dog is in the bathroom or not. And why, oh why do you want the dog in the bathroom anyway?
My favorite part is the whole, she says that if you are going to have the dog in the bathroom while we are showering maybe I don't want to be your girlfriend anymore. His response, well maybe my next girlfriend will like my dog better. Um, yeah, both of you need to shut the fuck up, but that is funny.
Cause the windchill factor has finally gotten into the 20s here in NC. I know that is nothing compared with my readers in the Northeast or in the Midwest, but for here, it has finally started to feel like winter.

Ok, now that I have that out of the way, I really don't like New Years resolutions. I normally don't really have one as with most anything, I forget about it after a month or two. It seems to be an extra burden to say on January 1, I will lose weight, exercise more, sleep more, have less stress, etc., etc., etc. We never really follow through with it and we forget about it after a short period of time. So it is a waste, but as I was thinking this morning (in the shower, where I do some of my best thinking) I decided that I should read more. I got a whole bunch of books from the public library's book sale and I should read them. There are probably about 12 or so of them and so one a month is a realistic goal. Really it means I only have to read about ten pages a day, probably, on average for a 300 page book, that sounds reasonable to me. I like to read and so this should be easy for me, so that is what I am going to do. And since I am reading more and so that I have a bit more reason to read, I want to start to post more book reviews. I plan on reviewing every book I read this year.
Oh yeah and a hat tip to DCup as I saw her post on resolutions and so I figured if someone as smart and cool as she can have one than I should too.
