Is this a good idea?

I really wonder whether this is a good idea. According to this article, Nickelodeon is thinking about creating a special on teen pregnancy after the whole release of the news that Jaimie Lynn Spears is pregnant. Now I think it is possibly a good idea, but it really depends on the direction that they take it. This could be just another instance where we get the same abstinence BS and kids are not actually given any information, but maybe not. Anyway, I though this was interesting that Nickelodeon is trying to figure out what to do and not just ignoring the issue. Anyway...

a good idea that will be executed so poorly.....

it will be watered down and have to pass some corporate censors

I agree with you both.

What concerns me about this whole situation with Jamie Lynn is that she will now be turned into this so-called positive pro-life role model.

Which is honestly horseshit.

I say take the kids to visit a mom that I taught this semester. She first has to worry about getting a baby sitter so that she can come to school. Second she has to worry about passing all her classes. Third she has to worry about getting to her job which is over in the next county about 10 miles away. Oh and BTW the kid is three years and she is only 17.

How about that for teaching kids about pregnancy. This is one of better situations that I have seen, at least she comes to school and has passed her classes.

The network is in damage control mode at the moment.

Nickelodeon did sponsor a news show some years back, specifically designed for children and young adolescents that told it like it was for the most part. I think Linda Ellerby was the host.

I will be pleasantly surprised if it makes a point to be open-minded and heavy-hitting, but I'm not expecting it. I'm expecting fluff more than substance.

Yeah, I love the idea of an open, honest discussion about the realities & repercussions of teen pregnancy.
But that ain't gonna happen here.
I'm pretty sure Jaimie Lynn isn't going to have to sign up for food stamps or get a job at McDonald's anytime soon.
But, a good idea in theory.
